This week Mayor Tokar had the opportunity to listen in on a conference call regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine. Here are some main highlights.
- The vaccine will be available to residents 18 years and older for the next 6 months
- Vaccine will be free from the Federal Government
- Some adverse effects: pain at injection site and long-term (2-3 weeks) of severe malaise
- Phase 1A – Will take 6 weeks and includes:
- Healthcare (includes all hospital personnel), paramedics, long-term facilities employees and residents
- Phase 1B – Includes:
- Police, Fire, Public Works, Teachers, School Nurses, Elected Officials, residents over 65 years old and residents with health issues
- Phase 1A and Phase 1B will take between 4-5 months to be completed
- Individual DOES NOT have to get tested before pre-registering for vaccine
- CVS and Walgreen’s will both be part of distribution
- 2 doses are required within 3-4 weeks of each other
- No plans to mandate vaccinations for everyone at this time
