The Chicago Ridge Police Department will be joining A.R.M.S. organization (Arms Reaching Many in Society) and the American Legion Post 1160 in their hosting of a Thanksgiving dinner for our service men and women stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base. This is A.R.M.S. eighth year in providing a holiday dinner to over 40 men and women when they can’t be home with their own families on Thanksgiving Day.
This year’s events will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd. In the morning the recruits will be picked up at the Great Lakes Naval Base and brought down to the hosting location; the American Legion at 10739 S. Ridgeland Ave. They will be served a family style feast, and to enjoy the day with activities and phones calls to home.
To help defray the costs A.R.M.S. is seeking donations and/or gift cards to local grocery stores. Checks can be made payable to A.R.M.S., please indicate “Thanksgiving Dinner” in the memo section of the check. Donations can be mailed to the Chicago Ridge Police Department, 10425 S. Ridgeland Ave, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415 in care of Chief Robert Pyznarski.
The work of A.R.M.S. is to let the service men and women know how much we appreciate their dedication and service to this country. Spending Thanksgiving in the company of these men and women is a small way we show our gratitude.
You are invited in being a part of this event at the American Legion. Their expected arrival time is 10:00 am and the community will line Ridgeland Avenue as we welcome the future Sailors of the United States Navy to Chicago Ridge. Attendees are also invited to mingle with the recruits and enjoy their company for the day.
Should you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Gunther, Assistant to the Chief at 708-425-7831; or Debby Pyznarski at 708-424-8379.
