Passport processing on a routine basis takes approximately 6 weeks* (with proper documentation).
Minor children (age 15 & under) must be present along with both parents. If submitting DS-3053, copy of front and back of a government issued ID for the consenting parent must be included. Applicants aged 16 & 17 years old must have one parent present and have current, government issued identification.
If you plan to expedite there is an additional fee of $60 (to the U.S. Department of State); with the exception of passport cards, return overnight delivery is available. Currently, expedited processing takes approximately 3 weeks* door-to-door (with proper documentation and return overnight delivery).
Also available is the U.S. Passport Card which can be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry. It is more convenient and less expensive than a passport book, however, the passport card cannot be used for international air travel. Card fees are $30 for an adult and $15 for a minor; a $35 acceptance fee applies.
