The Chicago Ridge Police Department hires full-time officers in two separate ways.

Public Hiring

The Fire and Police Commission gives out applications for possible future employment. Applicants are required to have at least an associate's degree in criminal justice/law enforcement or a bachelor's degree. Candidates must pass a written, physical, and oral interview to be placed on an eligibility list. This list is valid for two years. Additional testing is required for those candidates selected.

Internal Hiring

The Police Department also hires officers laterally. Applications are given to qualified candidates for these positions. Applicants must currently be working as full-time police officers in another jurisdiction for as least 12 consecutive months. These candidates will also undergo a series of examinations prior to being selected. These applications are also kept for two years.

APPLICATIONS

Beginning Monday, July 3, 2017, applications for Police Officer for the Village of Chicago Ridge will be available at the Office of the Village Clerk located at 10455 S Ridgeland Ave., Chicago Ridge, IL between 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday thru Friday and 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Saturday. Completed applications must be returned no later than 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017. A $25 non-refundable processing fee must be paid at the time of obtaining applications. EOE. The written test will be administered on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 8:00 a.m.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting salary $47,754; after 2 years $69,655; after 3 years $74,473. Benefits include uniform allowance, hospitalization, dental, optical, pension, vacation, personal, and sick days.
QUALIFICATIONS
U.S. Citizen, Ages 21 – 34 years old. Requirements – health, mental and physical agilities necessary to perform the duties of police officer. Must have a valid driver’s license and possess those qualifications set out in the Rules and Regulations of the Police and Fire Commission of the Village of Chicago Ridge. Must have earned an associate’s degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice or a bachelor’s degree. Applicant must pass written, oral, psychological examination and polygraph test. The written exam will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017. ***Currently employed, full-time Illinois State Certified Police Officers for at least the last twelve months are encouraged to test under State Statute (65 ILCS 5/0 – 2.1-8-5/10-2.1-9).***
RESIDENCY
All appointed police officers, within one year of appointment, shall make his/her place of residence within the boundaries established by the Village Ordinance.
