Deputy Chiefs of
Police
Deputy Chief of Administration
Dennis
Kapelinski started his career in law enforcement as a part-time police officer
in March of 1987. In December of 1991, Dennis became a full-time officer after
graduating from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Academy. He has worked his
way up through the ranks serving as a Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Detective
Sergeant, Commander of Investigations, and now as Deputy Chief of
Administration. During his full-time career, Dennis has received numerous
awards including twelve departmental commendations.
Dennis has held positions as a
Field Training Officer, Domestic Violence Officer and Evidence
Officer during his career. He has also served two terms as
President of the F.O.P. Lodge #12, one term as treasurer, and is
currently on his third term with the Police Pension Board.
Dennis believes close contact
with the community, especially with the youth, is instrumental
in preventing and solving crimes. Police officers interact with
the children during special events, creating a friendly
atmosphere. The officers volunteer their time for department
sponsored events, such as “A Day Out Against Crime” (barbecue in
the park), “Lock-in at the Park District” (overnight sports,
games, and movies), March Madness (basketball), and B.A.D.G.E.
Camp (sports and field trips). These events are complemented by
the seven-month program spent in the schools by the two juvenile
officers, the Risk Watch Program, the Citizen Police Academy,
and the re-activation of the Cadet Program.
Deputy Chief of Operations
Paul Landry
was raised in Chicago Ride, where he still has deep roots and many friends. He
is a graduate of Our Lady of the Ridge and Richard's High School.
Paul was hired and graduated from the Chicago
Police Academy in 1994. He was assigned as a cadet instructor, working with
young men and women who were considering a future career in law enforcement.
In 1995, he became certified as a Gang Crimes Specialist and worked with other
Gang officers from the area to address the rising gang crime situation.
Paul became a Certified Evidence Technician in
1997 and a Field Training Officer in 1999. This involved training new hires on
all aspects of police work, prior to them working on their own. Also in 1999,
he became one of the first two officers from this department to be trained and
assigned to the newly formed South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
Paul was promoted to Corporal in 2000 and then
Sergeant in 2001, where he ran a patrol shift until being promoted to Patrol
Commander in 2004. He continued in this capacity, assisting the Chief and
Deputy Chief in various aspects of the patrol division until being promoted to
his current position as Deputy Chief in July 2006.
Paul believes the Chicago Ridge Police
Department to be a highly professional and proactive organization. In this
high tech world, the department's goal is to keep pace with technology
utilizing the latest tools to assist officers in their law enforcement
efforts.
