Community Oriented Program

It is with great enthusiasm that we introduce our new community oriented program scheduled to start in December 2001. This program replaces not only our D.A.R.E. Program but also enhances community awareness about a number of issues. A great deal of research has shown that although D.A.R.E. promoted positive interaction between children and the police, it failed to achieve long lasting success in the area of drug abuse resistance. Our new program will provide not only drug abuse education, but will also deal with many issues specific to the Village of Chicago Ridge. We have added the one important component that D.A.R.E. neglected: parental participation. Parents will be invited to attend our meetings so they can be armed with the information necessary to make them aware of the situations their children face everyday. Parents will be advised of the subject matter that will be discussed so they can decide for themselves if their children are mature enough to be exposed to it. If not, parents can attend the meetings themselves. We hope this family orientated program will help us work as a community to face the challenges together. Look for meeting times and location on the local cable channel, your local newspaper or here on this web page.

B.A.D.G.E Information
Our B.A.D.G.E. Program now provides senior citizens with identification cards. These cards provide our senior citizens with a photo id that includes pertinent personal and medical information. They are handy and could make the difference in an emergency. As always, contact the Chicago Ridge Police Department for additional information. Ask for the Chief’s Secretary, Charity Mitchell, at (708) 425-7831 ext. 210.

"LUNCH WITH A COP" Program
To enhance the relationship between our police officers and the children in our community, we have instituted our "Lunch with a Cop" Program. By school year’s end, it is our goal to have had a police officer have lunch with every student in every classroom in our local schools. We hope to forge long lasting relationships with these very important members of our community. As a bonus, each student will receive a souvenir cup commemorating this encounter.
