Boards and Commissions

Committee Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month at 7:00 pm.  Board Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 8:00 pm.  All meetings are held at the Village Hall, located at 10455 S. Ridgeland Avenue.  Board meeting agendas are available Friday before the scheduled meeting at the Village Hall.  Minutes are posted after passage which is 2 weeks after scheduled meeting date.

Legislative Body of the Village
The Legislative and Governing body of the Village shall consist of the President of the Village and six Trustees, who shall possess the qualifications for office, be elected by the Legal Voters of the Village, take the oath of office and perform the duties provided by the State statutes.

Creation and Membership of the Board of Local Improvements
There is hereby established a Board of Local Improvements for the Village which shall consist of the President and Members of the Board of Trustees. The President of the Village shall be the President of the Board of Local Improvements and the Village Clerk shall act as the Clerk and Secretary of the Board of Local Improvements.

Powers and Duties
The Board of Local Improvements shall have the powers and perform the duties assigned to it by statute or by ordinance. The Board of Local Improvements shall meet upon the call of the President or any two Members on any regular Village Board meeting night without special notice. All other meetings shall be called by personal service of a notice upon each member 24 hours prior to the meeting; provided, however, that a meeting may be held without notice when all members are present.

Creation and Membership of the Zoning Board
Establishment of Board; appointment and terms of members. A Zoning Board of Appeals is hereby authorized to be established. The word "Board," when used in this division shall be construed to mean the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Board shall consist of seven members appointed by the President of the Village by and with the consent of the Board of Trustees of the Village. The Members of such Board shall serve, respectively, for the following terms and until their successors are appointed and qualified:

  • One for one year; 
  • Two for two years;
  • Two for three years; and
  • Two for four years.

The successor to each member so appointed to serve for a term of five years.

Established
A Planning and Development Commission is hereby authorized to be established. The Planning and Development Commission shall consist of members who are residents of the Village appointed by the President and confirmed by the Board of Trustees. The seven members of the Planning and Development Commission to be appointed shall serve, respectively, for the following terms:

  • One member for one year;
  • Two members for two years;
  • Two members for three years; and
  • Two members for four years.

Such members shall serve their respective terms until their respective successors are appointed and qualified. The appointment of a successor upon the expiration of the term of each member shall be for a period of four years and until his successor is duly appointed and qualified.

Establishment and Composition of Fire and Police Commissioners Board
A Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is hereby established in and for the Village in accordance with 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1 Et Seq. Such Board shall consist of three members whose terms of office shall be three years and until they’re respective successors are appointed and have qualified. No such appointment, however, shall be made by the President of the Village within 30 days before the expiration of his term of office.

Qualifications; Oath; Bond; Removal

  • Of the three members of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, one shall be a representative citizen of the employee class, one shall be a representative citizen chosen from the employing class, and the other shall be a representative citizen not identified with either the employing or employee class.
  • Each member shall possess the qualifications required of other officers of the Village and take an oath or affirmation of office and give bond.
  • Each member shall be subject to removal from office in the same manner as other appointed officers of the Village.

Creating, Organizing and Planning of the Ridgefest Committee
The Committee is composed of Representatives of the various Chicago Ridge Taxing Bodies as well as Residents, all of whom put in many hours of volunteer time between January and the Traditional last weekend of July each year.

Ridgefest Committee workers are charged with planning and organizing the annual RidgeFest Celebration. This event, which started in 1989 on the 75th anniversary of the Villages Incorporation, provides opportunity for the many non-for-profit organizations within the community to raise funds for their operations throughout the year.

Creation; Composition; Appointment; Terms of the Fair Housing
There is hereby created a Fair Housing Review Board, consisting of five members, who shall be residents of the Village and who shall each serve for a term of three years. No person shall simultaneously serve as a member of the Fair Housing Review Board and of the Board of Trustees of the Village. Each member shall be appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Trustees. The Chairman and Co-Chairman shall be elected annually by a majority of the Fair Housing Review Board. The terms of office for the Housing Review Board. The terms of office for the initial appointments shall be as follows: Three members for three years and two members for two years

Administration
The Fair Housing Review Board with the advice of the President and Board of Trustees, shall appoint an Administrator. The Administrator shall have such duties, responsibilities and powers as are necessary for the implementation of the article and additionally as may be provided by the Review Board or President and Board of Trustees, including the initiation, receipt and due processing of complaints.

Back To TopFirefighters’ Pension Fund

Creation of the Firefighters Pension Fund
There is hereby created a Firefighter’s Pension fund in and for the Village for the purpose of providing pensions for members of the Village Firefighter/Paramedic personnel and for full-time Firefighters personnel under the terms and conditions and regulations set forth in 40 ILCS 5/4-101 et seq.

Pension Fund Board –Membership
A Board composed of the President of the Board of Trustees, the Village Clerk, the Village Attorney, the Village Treasurer, the Chief Officer of the Fire Department, three Firefighters (elected by and from the active firefighters), and one person chosen from the Firefighters who have retired (for the purposes of such election, a Firefighter receiving a disability pension shall be considered a retired firefighter) is hereby established. The Board shall elect from its members a President and a Secretary. If there are no retired firefighters in the fund or if none is willing to serve on the Board, then an additional active Firefighter shall be elected to the Board in lieu of the Firefighter that would otherwise be elected.

Police Pension Fund – Created; Membership
A board, composed of five members, residents of the Village, shall be chosen as provided in this section and shall constitute a Board of Trustees to provide for the disbursement of the Police Pension Fund and designate the beneficiaries as directed in section 46-56 et seq., which board shall be known as the Board of Trustees of the Police Pension Fund of the Village. Two of the Board Members shall be appointed by the President of the Village; one of such members shall serve for a period of one year; and one of such members shall serve for a period of two years. The successors to any of the foregoing trustees shall serve for a period of two years each, or until such time as their successors are appointed and have qualified. The third and fourth members of the Board shall be elected from the regular police force by the active members. The fifth member shall be elected from the beneficiaries under the provisions of the fund by such beneficiaries. The members to be elected shall be elected by ballot for a term of two years, beginning on the second Tuesday of the first May after the election, at a regular election, at which election all members of the regular police force shall be entitled to vote for the police force members of the Board, and all beneficiaries of lawful age shall be entitled to vote for the member chosen from among the beneficiaries. The election provided for in this section shall be held biennially on the third Monday in April, under the Australian ballot system, at such places in the Village under such regulations as shall be prescribed by the appointed members of the Board; provided, however, that no person entitled to vote, under the provisions of this section, shall cast more than one ballot at any such election. In the event of the death, resignation or inability to act of any member of the Board, elected under the provisions of this section, the successor of such member shall be elected for the unexpired term at a special election, which shall be called by the Board and shall be conducted in the same manner as are the annual elections provided for in this section.
